The community of Sunnyside is located all around the Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest. This is generally bounded by 28th Avenue on the north and White Rock on the south. The western boundary is 140th street and the eastern boundary is 152nd street.
The Semiahmoo First Nation has a long history in the area and the Semiahmoo Trail which crosses the community was a trade route for them. Development did not begin until the 1890's. Because of its central location it has become a "new" trade route where major roads across and shopping centres have been built. However, the Sunnyside Urban Forest which was set aside as a park still has the rural feel that existed a century and more ago.
Several elementary schools are located in the neighbourhood including Bayridge, H.T. Thrift, Semiahmoo Trail, Jessie Lee and Sunnyside Elementary.
